How Does Sexting Start?
It is actually quite amazing to realize that in a single month, one teenager can actually send 6,473 text messages. However, a new trend that many younger teenagers have been involved in is the sending and receiving of messages in relation to sex. Such a type of SMS is called as sexting. At times, such types of SMS’s also contain various revealing pictures that have been clicked by themselves. A study conducted by Cosmo Girl showed that
• 40% of teen boys and 37% of teenage girls sent sexually explicit SMS to each other.
• 18% of teen boys and 22% of teenage girls posted some sort of semi-nude or completely nude video or picture which they themselves clicked.
At puberty, there are many teenagers that have finally figured themselves and so as they move into adolescence, they are now moving into the world on their own as independent beings. As a result, many teenagers are very much influenced by a variety of personas such as Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Jessica Alba etc. as a result, they try to become more like such celebrities. So they try to change various things about themselves like their hair, friends and physical appearance. So they also try to conduct such experimentations by making use of any types of communication channels which also includes mobile phones. Many times teens make use of such types of sexy pictures and texts to see how the other will react.
As many teenagers try to ape their colleagues or others that are more famous, teens at times feel pressurized to copy a particular trend. They feel pressurized with these various body images that are being sent to them. The study that was conducted by Cosmo Girl also showed that 51% of teen girls felt they were pressurized by boys to send sexy messages while on the other hand, 24% of teen boys were pressurized by their peers.
